How long, O Lord, must I wrestle here
Where waves of hurt collide?
My soul bellows with the sea,
Droning in the tide.
The current pulls me out again
In familiar sweeps and strides.
My heart is worn and weathered,
Shipwrecked from thrashing lies.
Must I tread deep in gales of grief
Mounting sorrows high?
My soul knows not the depth beneath
While shores taunt closely by.
How long, O Lord, must I wait within
Swells of pain that drown?
Must my body break again
Before my soul is found?
